Stop wasting time and start converting

As freelance photographers and videographers, it can be difficult to get discovered by brands and grow our client list.

But here's the good news - there's a tried and true method that can help you build a sustainable and profitable photography business, even if you're just starting or looking to pivot into a different niche.

In this post, I want to introduce you to The Golden Nugget Strategy, a high-converting pitch method that can help you attract new clients and build your portfolio in the process.

Here is a 5 step overview of how to accomplish The Golden Nugget Strategy:

Step 1: Identify Potential Clients

The first step in implementing The Golden Nugget Strategy is to identify potential clients. We suggest using Instagram, which is a fantastic platform for finding brands relevant to your niche. Use relevant hashtags to find brands that fit with your style and shoot capabilities. You can also use Instagram search and explore features to find potential clients.

Once you have a list of potential clients, start following them and engage with their content. Knowing their brand will be essential in showcasing your value proposition in the next step.

Step 2: Research

Spend some time researching the potential clients list you compiled. Check out their website and their social media profiles. This will help you understand their brand, their products, and the style of photography they currently use. It's crucial to know what they're currently doing so that you can create value-added content that will differentiate you from other photographers.

Step 3: Conduct the Spec Shoot

The third step in The Golden Nugget Strategy is to conduct a spec shoot, capturing high-quality, relevant content using their product. This is where you showcase your talents and unique perspective. The content you create should show them what you're capable of, and most importantly, how you can take their brand to the next level.

It's helpful to think outside the box here and bring fresh ideas to the table. Try to create a variety of content using different lighting, angles, and backgrounds. Include a mix of lifestyle and product shots, and don't be afraid to experiment!

Step 4: Present

Once you've created the content, it's time to pitch your services to potential clients. Send them an email or message via your chosen platform, and present your work as a high-value asset to their brand. This should be the first time you are contacting them.

To make things more personal, set up a Zoom call or Google Meet to present your work to them directly. This way, you can explain your process, the rationale behind your choices, and answer any questions or concerns they may have.

Step 5: Lock Them In As A Client

The final step in The Golden Nugget Strategy is to lock in the client with a contract in place. This means outlining future project scope, deliverables, deadlines, and other terms and conditions that are important to protect both of your interests. Your first project formally working together will most likely be a one-off shoot.

TFP Tip: We recommend transitioning clients that you love working with into retainer clients after a one-off shoot.

This is also a perfect time to also sell them on the photos (or videos) you captured with The Golden Nugget Strategy.

Overview:

Research, creating valuable content, and presenting it to potential clients is a great way to differentiate yourself from other creatives and position yourself as the expert in your niche.

The five steps of The Golden Nugget Strategy are simple, yet effective. Start by identifying potential clients using Instagram and other social media platforms. Research your potential clients, conduct a shoot and create content, create a pitch deck, present your work, and lock them in with a contract.

Remember, this method is all about showcasing your unique capabilities and selling yourself as an expert. If you follow these steps, you'll be able to build a sustainable and profitable photography business that will offer value to your clients and help you achieve your goals as a freelance creative. Good luck!
